De La Salle College’s Belfast Cup team continued on their winning ways against Regent House at a wet and windy Derry Park in Newtownards.

Despite the La Salle crossbar being rattled early on, constant DLSC pressure on Regent House’s defence was finally rewarded in the 20th minute when Aaron Mervyn scrambled home the opener from a corner kick. A series of excellent saves by Brendan Downey kept Regent House from opening their account. Ten minutes later, fantastic build up play by La Salle resulted in a Michael Ward-Brammeld goal, assisted by a wonderful through-ball from Kristin Walsh. De La Salle went into the break two goals ahead and deservedly so.

As expected, Regent House attacked early in the second half but resolute defending by the La Salle backline, and in particular man-of-the-match Deaglan Healy, meant that it was only a matter of time before the Edenmore boys increased their lead. Ward-Brammeld made it a personal brace by tapping home a third in the 55th minute.

With Liam Burns excelling at midfield and Ward-Brammeld always a threat up front, the best was saved for last as the impressive Jack Smith lifted the ball over the keeper following a memorable assist from Aaron Black in the 65th minute, resulting in a 4-0 final scoreline.
